For a new production as part of the Namedropping project, Amit2.0 met with a legend of German hip hop. MIRKO MACHINE has been a DJ for almost 40 years and is also a graffiti writer.

You are one of the pioneers of German Hip Hop. What role did writing play here in the different phases of your work?

Writing was and is a constant companion, I stopped spraying at the beginning of the 90s because everyone else was SO good and I concentrated on writing, but tagging has always stayed.

How long have you been painting regularly again?

Since 2018, my then 10-year-old son said let’s paint a piece again. Me liked that, but only with a sketch, from there it started again. Thought I could paint once a month, that was in January, in March I already had a weekly average.I made it through to the end of the year.  Then said to him, yo 56 made diggi! He then asked for 100 next year.Yep, I did!

How important is Hamburg to you?

It’s a great city, I met a lot of cool people here and had a lot of fun.

What do you think of the Namedropping project?

A really good idea, drawing and chatting together is always great, but get out of your comfort zone and you never do any other combination of letters.

How did you prepare for today?

I did a few sketches over the week.

Did the “new” combination of letters go well for you?

Sure, from the point of view of the thing, the letters all appear to me

Your favorite picture from the attached selection and why?

Rübezahl, my regular spray day with Resh, it was all leftovers and I like the white wobbly outlines 🙂

Imagine, you take a journey back in time to NY in the 80s. Which of the writers would you most like to paint with?

Boa that’s a question, hmm with T-Kid he’s such a boss, Seen and Dero Killer Killer Killer! With Duster and with Phase2, but if I have to decide with Erni, I celebrated the piece in subway art SO hard

Are you planning something musically or in writing that you would like to share with us?

Graff is a hobby, but you can meet me on Twitch 2-3 times a week if you’re in the mood for music

Please add: Writing used to be… awesome and is even more awesome today. i love it

Thank you!
